What to do in Alassio
The writer Ernest Hemingway signed the popular Alassio’s wall for the first time in 1951. This turned the wall and Alassio into one of the symbols of the Riviera and of the passing of lots of VIPs, who spend their holidays here.Another key attraction of the city is the touristic old town centre called Budello, which runs along the coast. It is an old “carrugio” with ancient buildings from the sixth century and medieval ruins such as the Saracen towers. On the same street, which is called now via XX Settembre, shoppers can choose among a great variety of fashion boutiques along with shops selling local specialities and hand-made products. Alassio’s beach is very close to Hotel Mignon 2 stars and is known now as the pearl of the Ligurian Riviera. Its coast stretches gently over 5 kilometres and reaching Laigueglia, you can enjoy an amazing panorama. The beach has a peculiar gold colour because it contains quartzes. That makes it unique among the other Ligurian areas, which are characterised by rocky and rugged shores. The seabed becomes deeper gradually, an important aspect if you want to enjoy with your children a holiday in complete safety.Along the coast, there are lots of beach resorts that offer all the comforts you need to enjoy a relaxing and comfortable time at sea. Even in the evening, there are plenty of opportunities to have fun: a lot of clubs wait for you with their cocktails along the coast, live music and entertainment for all the family and with your friends. If you love nature hikes, you must visit Toirano’s caves, which are only 20 km far away from Alassio. They are among the most exciting limestone and dolomitic formations in Europe. From the dock of Alassio you can reach on a boat Gallinara’s island and visit its bays and cliffs where you’ll enjoy some snorkelling and a swim.
